It was really Rainer Banham who presented him to me. I was as Melvin Charney book involved in the art courses, sitting in on discussions at the art school, on the difference between a drawing and a painting. Place Ville Marie was the whole axis, the north-south axis that went in. So if they want a museum, they could get this abandoned hangar. Other works included painted curbs, a ceremonial archway, an assembly of suspended found objects meant to give the impression of weightlessness.

It was to me more cultural. We were in the city, so even though we had charrettes where we would work through the night, early in the morning, I would walk the streets and experience first hand ideas that one would be drawing. And for them too there had to be rather arcane references about references too. But basically, it was the street that was the museum.

There was a philosophy course being given then Melvin Charney book the graduate school about simply, about expressionism and dealing with issues such as expressionism and art and dealing with various metaphysical questions that dealt with the art object, the architectural object. McGill is still very Canadian. But, you know, the sessions would be amusing. The few people I could talk to about this was Stuart, even though Stuart was more into something quite else about architecture. They acquired them a number of years ago. The former Velodrome was converted into the Biodome, an innovative zoo in which all the animals exist in near-perfect recreations of their habitats.

You know, he was totally influenced by Schinkel. This component of Corridart would serve as the principle continuity of the exhibit—keeping pedestrians on course, pointing out the major points of interest and showing newcomers and locals how much the city had changed.

Nerina, the protagonist, seems cut off from her emotions to a pathological degree. So McGill in a sense was both there and not there at the same time. Corridart was the creation of the architect Melvin Charney and the collective work of 35 local artists, with hundreds of performers signed on to provide entertainment along its route for the duration of the Games.

And found that- I found myself in the hospital in Sainte-Agathe a few hours later and then transferred to Montreal and the upshot was that I did not take my third year architecture.

Well, what happened was that Stuart Wilson was the main teacher at that time. What I found astounding about McGill is that for a long time, McGill remained an institution almost fixed in its outlook towards architecture.

No, I knew him as well and had him as a teacher in urbanism, but unfortunately, it was kind of town planning. I worked particularly for Charles Trudeau and Vincent Rother. And did find that it was interesting teaching here, and simply stayed on.

I think by fourth year McGill, I started looking closer at the grain elevators. Gordon, yes. But architecture to me was always a larger occupation.
